Pop-up Weaving Loom
When mother and daughter Stephanie and Mary Carswell struggled to find a small weaving loom that would make weaving accessible to anyone, they set out to design their own. Easy to construct and great for beginners, this pop-up weaving loom makes the perfect introduction to the colourful craft of weaving.
The small weaving loom comes flat-packed and can be simply put together by snapping the plywood sections apart and adding a few dabs of glue to keep everything in place. There’s space to make a woven piece up to approx. 25cm x 25cm, giving you enough room to get to grips with weaving, but without a giant commitment!
Add a weaving wool pack or experiment with your own yarns and colours to make wall hangings, tapestries or even jewellery. We’ve got all kinds of weaving supplies to add to the loom, making a complete and unusual gift for any craft-lover.
The flat loom measures 19 x 30cm and is 26.5 x 28cm when popped together. It comes with two shuttles and a comb and a link to our Introduction to Weaving guide.
You will also need:
One of our weaving supply packs, wool bundles or your own craft stash
A piece of card – the top of a cereal box is ideal!
A small dab of multi-purpose or wood glue
A pair of scissors
Tea and biscuits (optional!)
I love the idea of this loom, and the execution is great. The only problem is it doesn't include a heddle. I think you could include a second sheet of laser cut plywood that could be glued together to make a heddle, which would make a bit difference to the usability of the loom.
